Etymology

'Sigvald's farmstead, village', v. . The pers.n. Sigvald is Scand , a reflex of Sigvaldr /Sigvaldi . The unique DB form of the p.n., with the generic as -berie , represents a Norman scribe's misrepresentation of - rather than an original OE  -byrig (dat.sg. of burh ) of an earlier Anglo- Saxon p.n., v. the discussion of the p.n. Asfordby.
