Etymology

'Gauti's farmstead, village', v. . The ON  pers.n. Gauti either represents a short form of names in Gaut - or is an original by-name meaning 'a man from Gautland'. The township's name is occasionally suffixed with reference to nearby Noseley or Keythorpe to distinguish it from Goadby Marwood in Framland Hundred (v. Lei 2125). Note MLat  iuxta 'next to' used in the suffixes.
