Etymology

'The farmstead, village of the Frisians', v. Frīsa , Frēsa , , cf. Frisby (by Galby) in Gartree Hundred. Frisby lies on the river Wreake, adjacent to Kirby Bellars. The early affix ~ Hernis is from OE  (ge)hērness 'a district obedient to a single jurisdiction, a jurisdiction', cf. BerkeleyHarness, Gl 2206. Note also affixes with MLat  super 'on, upon'.
