Etymology

'The wooded hill belonging to Brȳni's people', v. -inga-, hyrst . The OE  masc. pers.n. Brȳni is also to be found in Brineton St 1129, Brington Nth 79 and Brinnington Ch 1 268. The township is sited on a small hill overlooking the river Welland in what was once heavily wooded countryside.
