Etymology

Brennycroft 1316, Brynycroft' e. 14 (v. croft; the first el. appears to be an adj. brenni formed from the ME   verb brennen' to burn', giving a sense such as' (cleared by) burning' (v. - ig 3), although OE   bryne or ON   bruni with the same meaning are also poss., v. Bonnycrofts in f. ns. (a) supra)
