Etymology

It is difficult to know how much stress should be laid on the Hadde - of the form in the Thorney Register. Probably it should be taken definitely into account and the first element be taken as the pers. name Hædda . Cf. Headdandun (KCD 544).Apart from this we should have taken it as OE  hæðdun, 'heath covered hill,' a very common form of p.n.
