Etymology

Roxley Court is Wrockesledich (i.e. Roxley ditch) 13thWymondley , Wraxley t. Hy 8MinAcct , Roxley 1648Cassio . Probably 'buzzard's clearing or wood,' v. leah , from a lost OE  *wrocc , 'buzzard.' For a full discussion of this element v. PN Wa 228– 30, s. n. Wroxall. “The buzzard no doubt was formerly a fairly plentiful resident” (Crossman, HNHS x, 92).
