Etymology

'The people of Tiwa ,' v. ingas and Ekwall PN in -ing 51.Alternatively the Tiwingas might be interpreted 'worshippers of the god Tiw .'

A further possibility should be borne in mind, viz. that we have another example of the obscure word found in Tew (O), (æt ) Tiwan 1004 (13th) Wills, Te (o )we 1086 DB. Tiwingas may denote 'dwellers on or by the tiw ,' whatever the significance of that word. See further DEPN s. n. Tew.
