O'Connorville or Heronsgate. The older name is Heryngarste (sic)1599SR , Herringat 1656 ParReg, of obscure origin.The alternative name is from Feargus O 'Connor , the Chartist leader, who bought an estate here, designed to be divided into small holdings, to be let to the subscribers to the 'National Land Company' (VCH ii, 371).
