Etymology

North and South Mimms (Mx) are about three miles apart. The latter is Mimes in DB; otherwise it has the same run of forms as North Mimms. This name must remain an unsolved problem. We may note that there are fields in Hemel Hempstead called Great Mimms and Little Mimms (TA ) and fields called Mims (TA ) in Hatfield and Mymmesfeld (1367) in Tring.
