Etymology

Roestock Fm is Rothstok (e )1330 Cl, 1369Ct , le Rothestokke 1355 Cl, 1468WAM , Rose Stock 1522Rental . Cf. also le Rothehous t. Ed 2 and Robert atte Rothe 1331WAM . This is a compound of the OE  roþ , 'clearing, etc., discussed under Roe Green infra 165, and stocc . Hence, 'stump in the clearing.' The clearing is probably the same as that in the adjacent Roehyde infra 95.
