  • Mutford farm 1641 Kings
  • Mutford 1327 Banco

Etymology

Mutfords is terra de Mutforde t. Ed 3Kings , Mutforde 1598 N, Mutford farm 1641Kings and was the home of Richard de Mutford (1327 Banco). The forms are too late for any certainty, but it may be that the first element is the OE  (ge )mōt , 'meeting,' as in Mutley (PN D 235). The s would seem to be late and pseudo-manorial.
