Burleigh Fm is Burgaleia c. 1180 Gesta, Burghelee 1199FF , Burgaleya 1218 Dugd ii, Burlege 1220 Fees, Burgleye 1248Ass , Burhelegh 1278 ib., Borueleye c. 1290 BM, Bourelegh 1294 Ipm, Burleyedane 1343Lytton , Brook Chappell al. Burleys Chappell in Lechworth 1576 FF. 'leah once marked by the presence of some burh or earthwork.' There are no signs of such now. v. denu .The manor was formerly a detached part of Letchworth parish.
