Etymology

Winchhill Fm is Winche Hill 1591Rental and was the home of John ate Wynche (1307SR ). This is probably the OE  wince , 'winch,' literally 'something bent,' used of a sharp bend in a valley, as in Winchbottom (PN Bk 203). The ground here is much broken.
