Almshoe [olim ɔˑlsi] and Almshoe Bury are Almeshou 1086 DB, Almesho 13thWymondley , 1220 Feeset freq to 1304 Ipm, Aumesho 1254 Pat, Almeshobery 1378 Cl, Little Amshoe , Amsoburye house 1602Trinity , Almeshooburye 1613Recov , Alsey 1631 StJohns, Almshoebury al. Ausybury al. Austybury 1804Recov . The second element is hoh , referring to the spur of land here. The first may be the OE  personal name Æþelhelm or Ælfhelm as suggested by Skeat (36).
