Etymology

Probably 'Gydel 's farm,' v. tun , as suggested by Skeat (47).This personal name is not on record but would be a regular derivative of Gydda . See more fully under Gidding (PN BedsHu 240–1). The ME spellings show the usual Hertfordshire e for OE y , v. Introd. xxv.
