Etymology

St Johns Pelham is Jonys of Pelham 1408 Cl, Johns Pelham c. 1825 O.S. The Saint is a modern fiction. The Knights of St John never held land in the parish. John may well be Sir John Groos, knight, who held the manor of Pelham in 1386 (Calendar of Close Rolls 1385–9, 283).
