Etymology

'Corner or angle of land marked by a popul or poplar,' v. healh . The same name is found in Ponshall (PN K 559) with the same genitival form. Wallenberg (loc. cit .) notes the Kentish parallels of Maplescombe and Maplesden for these rather surprising compounds.
