Etymology

Symondshyde is Hyda Symonis c. 1300 BM, Symondeshyde 1324–7 Ipm, Symundishyde 1349AddCh , Symoneshide 1438FF , v. hid . Distinguished from other hides in the parish, Cromerhide, etc., by the family of William fil. Simonis who held land in Hatfield in 1211 (RBE). Cf. also John fil. Symon taxed under Hatfield in 1296 (SR ).
