Etymology

Wynnel's Grove (6″) preserves in an abbreviated form a memory of the chapel in the parish dedicated to St Gunwal (cf. VCH iv, 27). Cf. capella Sancti Winwaloei 1387Walden , Wynewalestrete c. 1470Ct . This is the Breton saint to whom the church of Gunwalloe (Co) is also dedicated. For the name, v. Loth (Noms de Saints Bretons and Chrestomathie , s. n. Uuinuualoe ).
