Etymology

Caldecote Ho is Gatecote t. Ed 1, Gatecotecroft 1292, Gatecotesfeld 1301, Catcothill , Catcothous 15thWAM , Cattecotehyll 1541, Caldecote hille 1547 FF, Cadycot Hill 1597 ParReg, Carricott Hill t. Jas 1 ECP. Originally 'goats' cot(e),' with later assimilation to a common type. Cf. Caldecote infra 155. For the last form cf. Darracott (PN D 43) and Caddington supra 30.
