Etymology

'Farmstead near the wood', v. wudu , tūn . The wood is clearly that of Barnwood (117supra ); 'St Mary' because it was in the parish of St Mary de Lode (125). Wotton itself and much of the old parish is now in the city of Gloucester. The part which is without the city jurisdiction is now called by the modern name Longlevens.
