Etymology

'Farmstead associated with Wyrma', v. -ing 4 , tūn . The pers.n. is an OE  Wyrma , which is assumed for Warminghurst (Sx 182) and other p.ns.; it is presumably a byname from OE  wyrm 'reptile, snake'. 'Great' or 'Magna' to distinguish it from Berry Wormington (23supra ) and Daftyn or Daston from former tenants, Thomas Daftyn in 1367 Ipm (Dastyn 1369 ib) and Anthony Daston in 1641 Inq. Several Dastyns are recorded in WinchLB in the Winchcomb area from the 13th century.
