Etymology

'Farmstead associated with Hwīta', from the OE  pers.n. Hwīta , v. ing 4 , tūn . The spellings of this name are sometimes difficult to keep apart from those of Withington (186infra ). Cf. Whittington (Wo 178, where the form Wiþindon c. 1240Worc should be deleted as it refers to Withington).
