Etymology

Whalley Fm, to weallehes weg 800 (11th) BCS 299 (v.l. wallehes ), Wallaye 1236FF , Whallay 1236 ib (p), Walley Fm 1782 Will.Probably 'clearing near the wall', v. wall , lēah and weg 'road'. An old embankment stands just below the farm on the opposite side of the stream.
