Etymology

'West farmstead', v. west , tūn ; the OE form means 'boundary of the men of Weston' (v. -ingas , (ge)mǣre). There were two manors in Weston, one Weston on Avon itself which was held by Evesham Abbey and then later held of them by John de Cantilupe (cf. 1285FF , 1316 FA ii, 267, also Walter de Cantilupo 1324FF ), and the second called Weston Maudit from the feudal tenants Robert Maudit (1221 Plea), William Maudit (1284 FA), etc. The two manors were separate in DB, Weston on Avon being in Witley and Weston Maudit in Celflede hundred.
