Etymology

The occasional Teod -, Teud -, Thud - spellings suggest that the first el. is the OE  pers.n. Tēoda . 'Teoda's water-meadow', v. hamm (indicated by the spellings -hom , -hamme ), which is appropriate for the large low-lying tract between Knee Brook and Nethercote Brook.
