Etymology

St Twrog's Chapel, St Tryak de Betesley 1290 Heref, Rok Seynt Tryacle c. 1480 WmWo, St Tereudacus c. 1540 Leland, St Treacle 1577 M, The Treacle 1610 M, St Teclas 1830 M, Treacle field 1843TA . The remains of this chapel are on a rock in the Severn off Beachley Point. The forms of the saint's name are very corrupt through association with e.ModE  tiriake and ME  triacle , both meaning 'treacle'; they are finally replaced in 1830 by that of the saint Tecla ; Llandegla (Denbigh) is dedicated to her. But Tryak and Twrog have not been identified.
