Etymology

'Farmstead associated with Tǣta', v. -ing 4 , tūn . The pers.n. is OE  Tǣta . The loss of the intervocalic dental is paralleled by Doynton (77supra ), cf. Phonol. § 40 (b ). For the affixes v. micel (Lat  magna ) 'great'.
