Etymology

Lowdilow Brake, æthleowede hlawe 769–85 (11th) BCS 246, Loudilowe 1248FF , Lowdylowe 1378 Works, Loudelow (es )brig (g )e , Loudelowisbrig (g )e 1387 ib, Lowdelow Meadow 1775GR 184. 'The sheltered mound', v. hlāw . The first el. is OE  hlēowed , pa.pt. of hlēowan 'cherish' (cf. hlēo 'protection, shelter'). The thicket is near the parish boundary at grid 144–924270.
