Etymology

Cleeve Hill, Clevehill 1564Dep , Clevehill otherwise called Cleves hill 1564 ib. v. clif 'cliff, here the steep hill in the neighbourhood of Cleeve Cloud (prec.), hyll . From this Bishop's Cleeve at the bottom of the hill was named (86 supra ). The hill is one of the most prominent parts of the Cotswold escarpment, rising to 1000 ft.
