Etymology

v. Shipton Oliffe (supra ), from which it is distinguished by the names of various holders of estates within the manor, of whom the principal were the family of Solers (cf. William Solers 1221 Eyre 70, Robert de Solers 1236FF 215); Roberd is probably Robert le Archer, also called Robert de Solers (1236FF ), who married a granddaughter of Walter de Cormeilles, a 12th-century owner of the Shipton estate.Chaunflour is the name of another owner John de Chamflurs (1236FF ) and Pelle doubtless refers to Robert Pulye who had an estate here in 1242 (Fees).
