Etymology

This p.n. occurs elsewhere (ii, 21, 90 infra , Do, He, and as Brookhampton in Wo 33, 269, Wa 252), and denotes 'farmstead of folk dwelling by the brook', v. brōc , -hǣma-tūn, or more probably 'homestead by the brook', v. hām-tūn.
