Etymology

'Farmstead near the willows', v. wilig , tūn ; the spellings with -in (g )- may be from an alternative form with OE  wilign 'willow- copse'. The 'court' or mansion is from the family-name Willington derived from this p.n., and the earlier references are to members of this local family.
