Etymology
'Dairy-farm amongst the reeds', v. hrēod , wīc , cf. Redham (infra ); -wican in the OE spelling is dat.pl. On the development of hrēod to Rade -, Rede -, Rode - cf. Phonol. § 21; Rade - is probably due to confusion with OE rēad 'red' which becomes ME rede and rade .
