Etymology

Noverton [ˈnɔvətən], Overtowne 1575FF , 1614Rec , Noverton 1575TRMB , 1721 Will. 'Farmstead on the bank', v. ofer 2 , tūn , or 'upper village', v. uferra ; it is on the Cotswold slope above Prestbury.Initial n - is due to the wrong analysis of an older ME  form atten overton (cf. Phonol. § 45).
