Etymology

Hyde, (la ) Hide , Hyde Hy 3 Ipm, 1227, 1229 Ch, 1248Ass , 1287FF et passim to 1634FF , Hyde Farm 1653, 1686 PR 4. hīd 'an estate of one hide or about 120 acres of land', cf. Hyde (i, 97supra ). The farm at Hyde was set in an almost rectangular projection into Temple Guiting parish, and this contains about 130 acres.
