Etymology

'Tract of open country belonging to a place called Nymed ', v. feld , Nymed being a Celtic p.n. from Brit  *nimeto- (Welsh  nyfed ) 'a shrine, a holy place'. On the form Nymed cf. Jackson 278, 286, 555.
