Etymology

'North farmstead', v. norð , tūn ; it is 4 miles north of Gloucester.'Bishop's' or Episcopi because part belonged to the Archbishop of York and 'Prior's' from the Prior of St Oswald's, Gloucester; the latter was a peculiar of the see of York (VCH i, 14).
