Etymology

'(at) the new farmstead', v. nīwe (wk.dat. nīwan ), tūn . On the form Nowyn - cf. Phonol. § 22. Bagpath (infra ) was a separate estate (cf. Cold -Newynton and Baggepath 1473 Ipm).
