Etymology
'Farmstead in the marshland or moor', v. mōr , tūn . The affix 'in Marsh' is an adaptation of the affix Henmarsh (230 supra ) in Morton Hennemarsh , Morton Inmarsh , etc., whilst 'in the Marsh' which is sometimes found in more recent times is an erratic substitution. Old Morton survives only in the street-name Old Town (infra ).
