Etymology

'The homestead', v. hām-tūn. The affix Meysey recalls the possession of this estate by the Maisi , Moisi family from the 12th century (Gaufrid de Maisi 1134 P, Robert de Meisi 1185 Templar 48, Roger de Meisy 1221Ass 12d, John de Meysey 1243 Abbr 126, Robert de Meysey 1262 Ipm, etc.). Heyworth is Highworth (W 25), 7 miles to the south-east. Heamtun 1062–6 KCD 823 must be Hampnett (173infra ).
