Etymology

'The long valley', v. lang , hop 1 ; for the form Lunge -, cf. Phonol. § 6. The first el. was originally an affix used to distinguish this place from Hope Mansel (He), 4 miles west. The affix Eilildis is possibly from the OE  fem. pers.n. Æþelhild and Hunaldi from OE  Hūnwald , but neither has been identified.
