Etymology

v. King's Stanley (199supra ). It is called 'Leonard' from the former dedication of the church (ecclesiam Sancti Leonardi de Stanleye 1138 Glouc, Hy 2 (1268) Ch) and the small priory of St Leonard founded c. 1200 by Roger de Berkeley (whence also Monachorum 'monks').
