Etymology

'Cole's outlying farmstead', from the ME  pers.n. Cole (OE  Cola , cf. Feilitzen 217) and þrop Hugh Cole was a free tenant here t. Hy 3 (StPGl 21); cf. also Colley Green and the f.n. Colehill (infra ). For forms like Coldrop cf. Phonol. § 41 (a ).
