Etymology

'Farmstead on the R. Frome', v. Frome (2) i, 7supra , tūn . Cf. Frampton on Severn (ii, 196supra ). The affixes relate to the feudal owners, the Cotel family who held the manor from the 12th century (1167 P, 1236 Fees i, 443, 1245 Inq 4, 1257 Ch, etc.) and the Gacelyn family who acquired part of it in 1313 (Rudder 445); the latter's messuage was called Man ' de Gastlynges 1580FF , Goslings 1628 Inq.
