Nupend, Nup (p )end 1621 Will, 1673 PR 13, 1777 M. A frequent Gl minor name meaning 'the upper end', v. upp , ende and for initial N - from a wrong analysis of ME  atten upp-ende 'at the upper end' v. atten , Phonol. § 45.
