Etymology

Littleton (lost), Litlington , Lytlyngton , Lutlyngton 1287 Ass, Littlynton 1309FF , Littilton in par. Dumbulton 1466 IpmR, Lytleton 1554FF , Littleton Filde 1542 LP. These references particularly associate the place with Dumbleton, but its exact location is unknown; there is another lost Littleton in Winchcomb (cf. Littleworth near Greet 34infra ). 'Little farmstead', v. lȳtel (wk. obl. lȳtlan ), tūn ; it may be the 1 hide that Goizenboded held in Dumbleton in DB, as com- pared with the 7½ hides of Abingdon Abbey.
