Etymology

The Wick (lost), Wyk ' iuxta Dounameneye 1330FF , Wyke 1331FF , 1346, 1358 Ipm, 1484 IpmR, Wyke Valers 1332 Pat, Wyke iuxta Hampton Meysy 1394FF , Dounameneyeswyk 1345 Ipm, Dounomeneyeswyk 1349 Aid.v. wīc 'dairy-farm', sometimes used to denote a secondary settlement from an older place as here, Cerney Wick (58), or Northwick (235infra ). Nicholas de Valers was granted the estate in 1270.
