Etymology

'Farmstead associated with Dunna', v. ing 4 , tūn . The well- evidenced OE  pers.n. Dunn (a ) occurs in other local names, Duncombe, the f.ns. Dunne (n ) dic and Dunnes sleade (infra ) and Dunnestreatun , into Dunnestreattúnne 779 (c. 1200) BCS 229, that is 'farm on the Roman road belonging to Dunna ', v. strǣt , tūn , the road being the Fosse Way, near which remains of a Roman villa have been found; Dunnestreatun may in fact be the older name of Donnington, as the bounds in BCS 229 are those of Donnington.
